ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa spoke to the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) on November 16, 2025, and told critics to give him a clear date if they want him to step down. He said talk about his exit should not be done in secret and said he is ready to resign if he is asked to do so.
The President spoke at the NEC meeting at the party’s main office. His words came after news reports said he might leave after the G20 summit. He said the ANC must be open and use the right steps when it makes key choices.
Ramaphosa also said all NEC members should go through lifestyle checks. He said the ANC must not run like a mafia. He said trust and clear rules should guide leaders, and he stressed that each member must take blame when due.
NEC Meeting Focus The NEC spoke about many issues, like the G20 Summit, the state of the economy, and the arrival of people from Palestine. ANC leaders said full details will be shared once the meeting ends, with full notes from the Secretary-General and other groups.
The NEC also looked at party tasks, talks on national issues, and a report from the Integrity Committee on the Free State Premier case. The group also voted to fill two open seats in the National Working Committee after the loss of Tina Joemat-Pettersson and the exit of Peggy Nkonyeni.
Ramaphosa gave a wide update on local and world issues and the plans for the G20 summit. He talked with world leaders who will visit and helped make sure South Africa is ready for the event.
Political Stability and Rumors The President also spoke about claims of a “departure lounge.” He said he is not set to leave. ANC leaders said the NEC term runs to December 2027, and Ramaphosa will stay on unless he makes a different choice.
The NEC also spoke about the arrival of the people from Palestine. Two party groups worked on the facts, such as how they came in, who paid, and how the state will deal with it. A full update will come in two days.
Ramaphosa ended the meeting by asking members to stay calm, work as one, and keep to clear rules. He said they must focus on how the party runs and on key world events, while keeping strong watch over all tasks.
